My First Mobile Blog!

So, what is this all about? May be about Mobile Blog, will explain later... Bought a new MOTO Q9 phone, which I have been waiting for quiet a long time... I actually gave up on Moto phones, once i had N95 in my hand! When i saw Moto Q, I couldnot resist my temptation in SWIPING my Credit Card to buy this ONE! Tell you am really on the Cloud 9!

MOTO Q9 is simplyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy AMAZING!

Hell lot of features, and additional applications (@ COST) available on the Web...

I strongly recommend if you are on the mobile (especially in Airports, Bangalore Traffic, Railway Station, Bus-stand, or wherever) and want to tap the Data network both for fun as well as for Productivity, MOTO Q9 is the answer..........

Time to say again "HELLO MOTO!"

To do the justice for the image.... Isnt it toooooooooooo CUTE!

This is around 17 year old snap of my 2 cousins, Anup and Kedar (Right to Left) with Kedar's Mom giving a support hand! We wanted it on a mug and so got it scanned! Trial of Hotmail on Moto Q made this image to land on MotoQ. Then a trial of mobile blog made this to land on blogspot.com.. Am adding some Text meat to make it a post... The Text was from the desktop... [:)]

Identifying a Loser in a Leader!

Here are my thoughts about "How I could see a Loser in a Leader" in 3 environments - one in a decent Startup, then in a Mid-size Telecom Service Provider and other in a Global Fortune 100 Company!

Trait #1 - Being a Dumb Lier!
Lieing to Audience!
First observe the Body Language - The Body language says "I am a Total Loser!". Because of the fact that we might have seen them earlier on numerous occassions, we just ignore this Body Language and the Leader gets the benefit of Doubt!

Second - You hear statements like this
"I (/We) have been travelling non-stop for past 2 - 4 weeks interacting with partners, customers, govt - all are excited about our technology! We have a great Future"

You get to hear this quiet often -
"Guys the market is Huge, Great! Its ocean out there! All we need to do is Just DO IT", as if the audience really didnot have any sense of what is it out there! "What is out there" is just COMMON SENSE!

Trait #2 - Looking for a Scape Goat!
Not-even Shouldering the Responsibility!
The Leaders though they would have read enough number of times that never put failures on somebody's shoulder, fail to "Walk This Talk"!

You hear -
"I arrived at a Perfect Strategy and asked u to do this /focus on this / your team is expected to do this. You guys dint do it and we fail!"

Though this is less seen outside the boardroom, if one observes a basic level of communication, you get to see a Frustration (/ OverJoy) that conveys all! [:D]

My personal observation has been
. Steve Waugh - in case of a loss, he always use to say - I take the Personal responsibility for this defeat! This way u instill the confidence in the team and be a TRUE leader rather than a Momentary Leader!
. Have seen this trait in only Manager (/ CXO) I have worked with. Rest around 10 are utter DHUD
. You can make out at the Cricket Match Presentation Ceremony whether the Losing Captain is a Leader or a Loser [:))]

Trait #3 - Speak About Work Accomplished in Past!
Take Responsibility of Previous Successes! Itz like Mungerilal Ka Sapna!

Leader Never Speaks About His Work! If he speaks he definitely is a Loser!

"I built the company from a team of 3 to 25! I built an amazing team! But the current team lacks the instinct. I wish I had that kind of team!"

"I was totally responsible in taking the company from US$ 1 M to US$ 200M. I did it! I see similar opportunity here!"

"I have been working off late with CXO1, CXO2 and Senior Management to re-build the organization!I am working Very Hard, Stretching, Work 24 X 7"

Week Long Celebrations - Day 1- Mission T20

Post my last post, the gala week long events started to unveil, to mark my decade long work :))! Indeed this was a very memorable week!
Day1 - Sept 19 2007 - Mission T2020!

Like any other Cricket Crazy Fan of a > 1 Billion Cricket Crazy Nation, I embraced the T20 World Cup with open arms and Eye Balls glued to the TV Sets! Even if India had not performed well, I still would have been pretty excited having witnessed the Fast, High Quality and Close Cricket Matches!

Zimbabwe defeating Australia and Bangladesh beating WI was just an indication that unlike the boring 50 over ODI WC, this was very different and going to be real fun!

England v India at Durban - Sep 19, 2007
As was in the process of interacting with prospective investors, who can enable me to move of the Corporate Life, had a meeting with one of the very promising prospective investor and so missed initial few overs of the match (around 7 overs)!
When I came back and started viewing the telecast it was 70/0 in 8 overs, Sehwag and Gambhir were still at the crease. This enabled us with a solid platform for good score! The onslaught by Yuvi turned it to be a VERY HUGE Score! What a performance by Yuvi hitting 6 balls over the boundary and several rows back! It was a performance of a life time and very rare showcase of Perfect Hitting!

No words to describe the excitement that this caused and set the perfect platform for the rest of the week to start! BTW the fund raising meeting (/s) [earlier in the day during morning there was an another meeting] related to my objective resulted in 30% of the investment goal! A Perfect way to START! Isn't IT?

Real Inspiration after a Decade of being an Engineer!

Well let me rewind back to exactly a decade and 3 days, i.e. Sept 15th 1997! It was officially my last day @ SJCE, Mysore! The 4 years (93-97) went like a flier with only focus on passing out of Engineering College and live upto dreams of a typical Indian Middle-Class Parents! Initially the focus was to fare well wrt Marks Sheet in every Internal and Semester Exam! After 3rd semester results, the focus shifted to just clearing the semester exams! On Sept 15 1997, after the External Viva I felt I did IT! But wasnot sure, what future was in-store! I wasnot even sure what significance Sept 15 had till a decade later i.e. Sept 18 2007 until I read this article!

I thank Bala for this forward. Always, I use to look at West Technology Geeks for the inspiration! The article beside is a brief consolidated information of a Simple Man who has so many credits to himself. We need to be gratitude for this great man! Without his vision and seeds for the same we might not have had the so called Great Professional Lives!

If you donot understand the beside Script, you can access this link which is not a translation but brief info about Bharat Ratna Sir MV!

I guess apart from naming the Colleges, Universities on the Great Man, the Government (rather University / College) has to give a Short Biography of Sir MV for every graduating Engineer! But that might dilute the value of the book. :)) As most of graduating engineers (including us) donot attend the Graduation Day functions, I guess a 5-minute talk on Sir MV during the Valedictory Function would be a good tribute and set standards or inspiration for some percentage of Serious Engineering Profession Seekers. I guess the accomplishments would be definite inspiration for Technopreneurs!

Sept 15 is BharatRatna Sir MV's Birthday which is officially Engineer's Day as a mark of respect to the great MAN!

Isnt it a great feeling having graduated on a Engineer's Day? Though realised a decade later, I am completely THRILLED!

How to Cash in on GOLD RUSH?

For the week Starting AUgust 19 2007, the prediction based on the SUn Sign is as seen in left! How nice it feels when one sees something like this! Well is this applicable to all the capricorns? Or only few or even only one or two amongst the capris in the world? Or is it all this is simple 'RUBBISH'! If the prediction is rubbish, are the gaga and predictions that appear in every media based on the Sun-Sign is just to fool around the readers? Am not sure and not knowledgeable enuff to pass on my judgement! I keep looking at this column usually on the newspaper and set my mood for the day! But whatever i am seeing on Left is simply great! What should I do to cash in on GOLD RUSH? Is the GOLD RUSH really for me are some of the sample questions running thru my mind. Should I blow this up into a bigger image take a color print out frame this up and put it onto the wall hoping for a miracle to happen? That way am atleast knowedgeable to say that it definitely wont happen!
Definitely
  1. My Mind is Hyperactive at this point of time and I feel really I am on a higher Plane
  2. Based on the study and analysis I have done over last few weeks, I have figured out there are tremendous opportunites. But regarding opening up, to whom is it for? Is it for me? If so, simply sitting and day-dreaming on what all I could do after cashing in on gold without working on to get gold really help? Should I act now? If so what action should I take? If not for me is it for a capricorn colleague with whom i constantly fight over messenger as she sits in an another building or is it for an another (unknown) capricorn colleague, whose blogs are simply amazing and take me to a higher plane of thinking!
  3. The chances galore to emerge as a victor is simply taking me to a higher plane than the one suggested above!

Let me look at the ways towards becoming a victor -

  1. Real Estate - Hmm... What do i need to do in real estate? Lately am constantly using the plastic card (credit card) to send in some real estate into my stomach then where the hell can i get the money to invest into this? There can be some other options so this is still open. Elited minds can suggest me some thoughts on this
  2. In herited Wealth - Completely Ruled out - No more explaination on this [;)]. The wealth got eroded to make me today what I am
  3. New collaborations - What Collaborations? Is the wedding a collaboration? But havent got a gal yet! [:)]
  4. Joint Finances - Completely ruled out too, But can still be an option if some one considers my thoughts are worth some riches and comes forward to invest.. SO still this option OPEN
  5. RENTALS? - Dont have anything to rent except for heart! Bcoz Mind and Time lent on rent to my employer! Shelter of my own is already out on rent! "Heart on Rent" probably is a good new business model as the BODY on rent on an hourly basis, nightly basis can lead to behind bars, health related ailments for ever, also body is not a machine etc.. [:D] But who would want Heart on Rent! Anyways abt the Body am sure my body is not worth letting out on rent! So option CLOSED, If not for innovative suggestion other than letting my 4 wheeler on rent! [;)]
  6. LUCRATIVE is what am desperate for so that i can get even on with the life from negative BANK Balance...
As my friend IDEA NAREN (the supreme consciousness in the making [;)] ) suggests, "based on KARMA in the past life or this life, opportunities galore are open for a person, to make it big provided he or she contantly keeps mind, eyes, ears open and take action"!
So what action should I take? Suggest me! Will share little GOLD with u on getting the GOLD! [:)]
BTW keep visiting, this is getting interesting!

Impressive Success Story!

As I am going through the "From Concept to Hyper-growth" Video on YouTube by one of the Co-founders of YouTube - "Jawed Karim", I thought for a while, after Sanjaya Mallakar, it was time for Jawed to be on my Blog. Below is the Video shared from YouTube

By the way, how did i get onto this Video. In continuation of my thoughts after my last post, there were queries in my mind, how are the other guys doing? That meant to the companies like MSFT, GOOG, APPLE! A brief info based on the Q2 2007 results, and some crude and simple analysis similar to what i posted on Sasken.
  • Google with 13748 full-time employees generated US$3.87 Billion last quarter with Profit After Tax (PAT) being 1.1 Billion US$. That meant every employee was contributing US$ 80,011 per quarter which meant 0.32 million US$ profit a year! This is really incredible!
  • Apple with 20186 full(and part) -time employees generated US$5.41 Billion last quarter with Profit After Tax (PAT) being 818 Million US$. That meant every employee was contributing profit of US$ 40,523 per quarter which meant 0.16 million US$ profit a year!
  • Microsoft with 76000 full-time employees world wide generated US$13.37 Billion last quarter with Profit After Tax (PAT) being 3.035 Billion US$. That meant every employee was contributing US$ 39,934 per quarter which meant 0.16 million US$ profit a year!

These three are currently the best IT Software(MS / Apple) / Hardware(Apple / MS) / Service(Ads - Google / MS) Companies!

When I did end up searching how GOOGLE name was born, ended up on Wikipedia and the page had info about Youtube which topped the list of the highest disclosed paid acquisition by Google. So what is the background of YouTube? Founded by three engineers with an Average age of 28 during Feb 2005 was acquired by Google in Oct 2006 for a whooping sum of US $ 1.65 billion. The fact that 17 month old company being acquired for US $ 1.65 billion is remarkable!

Let us get back to India and lets see the top 4 IT companies and see their story wrt last quarter

  • Infy with 75971 employees generated US$872 Million last quarter with Profit After Tax (PAT) being 253 Million US$. That meant every employee was contributing US$ 3,324 per quarter which meant 13296 US$ profit a year! Is this really credible? WIll share my thoughts below
  • TCS with 94902 employees generated US$1.3 Billion last quarter with Profit After Tax (PAT) being 291 Million US$. That meant every employee was contributing profit of US$ 3,066 per quarter which meant 12264 US$ profit a year!
  • WIPRO with 72137 employees generated US$1.07 Billion last quarter with Profit After Tax (PAT) being 175 Million US$. That meant every employee was contributing US$ 2426 per quarter which meant 9704 US$ profit a year!
  • Satyam with 38381 employees generated US$452 Million last quarter with Profit After Tax (PAT) being 93 Million US$. That meant every employee was contributing US$ 2426 per quarter which meant 9704 US$ profit a year!

It is surprising to see how similar the results are wrt Satyam and Wipro though their employee numbers and the Revenue numbers are very different! May be they are operating at a very optimal level by adopting the best practices etc. That is a different story!

Microsoft with US$ 44.2 Billion $ last year (2007) was ranked 49th in Fortune 500 companies. Sunguard with US$ 4.323 Billion was ranked 500th in the list. Here is the Full List! May be this year definitely Wipro and TCS will be qualified to be in the list! But i guess that list is for companies in US. Keeping that apart, since entire work engaged done by these companies is based on outsourcing it would be really worthwhile to see how will they respond to the challenge when the heat is ON! Will it be Cuts, CUts, and more Job Cuts especially because of the fact that IT industry in india has started greying with HIGH Salaries!

I guess a succesful product company like iFlex can be a good example for these folks to focus and be balanced to face the HEAT that might arise tomorrow! With the gigantic Size to which they have grown up to, is the time too late to react?

Remind you, it is not that these guys never tried doing products, both WIPRO and Infy have burnt good money in the process!

Coming to my earlier reference in the above Infy results posting, the only worry is if 25% work is not outsourced (may be

  • OBAMA could be the reason if he wins the next election or
  • OSAMA - can he still be the reason?) ,

assuming 25% engineers on bench, will Infy, Wipro, TCS be able to retain them their balance sheet would turn RED, RED, RED, VERY RED!

The above video can inspire some minds eventually that could lead to atleast one product (/ service similar to google unlike peanut IT service) out of India that could be bought @ 1 US$ Billion, which might set the change for the new entrepreneurs! :)

BTW I got handful amount of info on ITTIUM which is entirely a out-of-the-box company focussing on IP and their revenue model being licensing and royalty on the IP owned by them!

Is the IT Boom Over?

One of my 'Blog Friends' posted an interesting post on Job Hopping in IT Industry! That inspired me to post this one.
My 2 cents of thoughts based on some facts and my analysis on them is as below:
I feel IT Honey Moon or IT boom period ceases or the correction is due to happen very soon. The reasons being -
  • Raising Rupee
  • Raising Salaries

The IT Service companies (and the product counterpart which act like IT Service companies) are already feeling the HEAT. The higher attrition rate in the industry makes the situation worse.

Already the Tier-1 Companies Infy, Wipro, TCS, Satyam are looking for cheaper destinations like Bubaneswar, Mangalore, Coimbatore etc. They have even looking options at China, Malaysia and lesser known countries with Skilled Human Resource. Thus claiming they are multi-ethnic whatever shit name they use just to have good returns for their Investors!

What does this mean to us (IT Labour)? Our Jobs could be at stake. There could be correction which will see Layoffs, We might not see the consistent Salary Hikes (negative salary growth could also be foreseen). Why am I sounding like a very negative person? It is just a thought, based on some analysis. Let us dig in.

Raising Rupee / Salaries
- How will it affect us, the later part (Raising Salaries) should make us 'HAPPIER'. Isnt IT?

Let us do some analysis on one of the Tier 2 companies, say Sasken.

  • Sasken Q1 FY08 Revenues declared on July 20 stand at Rs 128.4 crore up 41%;.
  • Consolidated Profit After Tax (PAT): Rs. 6.39 crore - decreases 31% vs Q1 FY07 .
  • Employee strength stands at 3,513 as on June 30, 2007 .
  • Utilization on the services side stands at 72.5% (am not sure what this means, but am assuming bench of around 28%)

(Source: http://www.sasken.com/newsroom/press/2007/20_Jul_2007.htm)

Let us take PAT which is 6.39 Crores, i.e. US $ 1.59Million. By crude and simple calculation, every employee is contributing around US$452 profit per quarter to Sasken, which is INR 18,104. Should this raise an ALARM! Definitely it would have, for me if i was working there! More over this number is a laughing stock for me. I dont consider this as a profitable business! The analysis for other Tier-2 companies could give similar results! If so, then it is a matter of worry for IT Service industry employees in general.

To add little optimism into the post, couple of days earlier Airtel anounced their results and the net profit is US$ 375 Million! Though we cannot compare head-on-head these two companies, but this information is just to highlight on the fact that what are profitable businesses doing currently.

As an employee (of any company), this little analysis could help us to identify / analyse how good my company is doing and what would my future hold in there! Whether current salary i am drawing, or current hike i am entitled to, 'is it eternal?'!

Let us get little more pessimistic, let us assume next quarter, a company (having 2500 employees) encounters a loss of US$1.59 Million. What would happen? The pressure from investors would lead the senior management to shave non-billable labour to save their ass and show lesser loss the coming quarter!

If I or You is part of that shaved labour, my or your salary cease, it would not be very easy to get a job (especially if you have more years of experience, or a big lot of around 500 employees get sacked, or recruitment not happening for my skillset etc. or may be lesser experienced and lesser cost and smarter guys can do my job).

If you have a car on EMI, it would cease to run, if a FLAT on EMI, the cheque might bounce back, if not on the first month, may be 4-6 months from the time of getting shaved! Then the Man Handlers (like Bouncers to keep the unruly crowd in Pub) from bank would appear at my home!

If this happens for an account having 500 ppl working in, this would result in a lot of unrest amongst the IT crowd and the society! If the things get worsen, either by US economy slowdown or change of decisions to outsource to lesser cost country, the possibility of more job cuts and more work less pay would be a certainty. The situation could be no different than Farmers when the crops or rain gods fail, if you have too many loans! Would this lead to a situation like Mass Suicides by IT employees (on the current lines of Farmers suicides like in Vidarbha region, Some parts of Karnataka, Andhra) etc. Though comparison might appear very silly today, it could be a reality tomorrow!

Some more analysis - the tier-1 companies offered the Cost Advantage to US companies creating a new industry a little while ago - the IT industry. In the process, created Brand Bangalore across the Globe, and loads of money to their investors and lesser but relatively better money for working ppl like us (knowledge labour). But they got us tagged with 'Cheap IT Labor', which actually showed in the work too. As of today, < 10% of the IT Work force i guess would be doing real quality work on similar lines to their teams working in High Cost Centers!

What do we need to do, for the existing customer not to cease giving us our bread through our organization is.

  • It is assumed we are entitled to do our work very efficiently without any annoyance to the customer (does it really happen).
  • Give Value Add Service along with the Service being offered
    - It is left to one's field of work .
  • Stop exploiting the customer by over billing, shadow billing etc.
    - Time and again i have seen customer being billed for 2 resources when the work could have been done by one resource.
  • Create IP for the customer, I have hardly seen, ppl doing this.
    - The mantra has been focus on the work assigned, do it and get out.
    - This would no longer work in Future.
  • Innovate - Out Of the Box Thinkin, for yourself, your organization and your customer to maintain the Supply Chain for your Bread and to your Bank Needs for Car, Flat EMI or Fatty FOOD [:D]

Thus, to conclude, the question you need to ask you think, act WISEly to have a Safer Tomorrow for yourself and your loved ones!

B2BC (Back 2 Being Crazy)!

B2BC - Well as the post says, unlike traditional meaning of B2B and B2C, B2BC stands for Back to Being Crazy! Well this time, yday i thought of making it to Mungaru Male once again and HUDUGAATA back2back (7:15 and 10:00 PM shows).
As said in one of the previous blog, i cudnt get ticket sometime back. So i tried online and it was quiet easy to book and get the ticket. Only complaint about this process is, even after booking the ticket, one needs to stand in the Very BIG queue @ PVR to get the printed tickets to enter into the Screening Hall! As i had enough time and relatively not a lengthier queue, this wasn't a problem this time! But am sure it wud be if u have arrived late and see a VERY LONG queue!
Though it was for a second time, i enjoyed MUNGAARU MALE totally! Couldnt resist to eat all sorts of junk food as I was going to start a WEEK long CRASH DIET program starting today! [;)] Came out of the hall @ 10PM and decided to try if i can get tickets for HUDUGAATA! It was available and i got in with little excitement as i was tired. But eagerness to finish off Ganesh's movie made me to hang out with the theater for some time! The little excitement which I had, completely melted within few minutes of the movie commencement! The reason being, everything appeared so SICK! Ganesh's acting was reasonably ok. At times it appeared very artificial! The plot though is a direct COPY of "A Journey into Woman's Heart" - Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, it lacks the narration style of the ORIGINALCOPY [:D]! As IDEA NAREN pointed out few days back, scenes appeared to end abruptly several times, which is definitely a NO-NO! The director SANJAY has to get some basic film making training!
The act of daring the director - producer duo possess claiming that it is their original script, is definitely laudable! Even the punch line A Romantic Journey, appears to have been copied from the DHKMN! In one of the songs, the tune appeared to have been cut directly from RAMANA GOGULA's number! The only PLUS point the movie has, is the beautiful Photography by Sathya Hegde! Narendra, swalpa avradhu rate yeshtu keLlhi sir...... Choreography is also really great! APART from 3 songs the movie is a TOTAL ZERO!
Incidentally the ticket number for Mungaru Male was K 10 and for HUDUGAATA was L 10. My lucky number appears to be 1. That was little pleasing amidst the chaos of HUDUGAATA!
Another thing i observed was in one of the songs the director friends YOGARAJ BHATT and SURI of DUNIYA fame has same location and same scene but with different actors as in Mungaru Male and DUNIYA! Accepted the fact they did so many things together being friends, is it really necessary to have the same scenes in a song for around 30 seconds? This trend initially i had observed in DIL and Aashiqui several years back. Was the choreographer the same (or is it really got anything to do with choreography?). I came out of the theater once the song Yeno ONthara was over, and time was sharp 12:15AM! Had a very sound sleep starting from 1:15 :)
BTW how are the snaps taken from my N95? [;)] Still the relation is going strong, VERY Strong! Guys switch over to NOKIA N-series!

KALMANE KOFFEE @ The FORUM with my N95!

Well, Today was one of the day of being upset for reasons unknown! My way of refreshing on such days is being all by myself, watching a movie, shopping for an unknown item, sipping coffee repeatitively.
I drove back home to make it to an appointment. Being very reluctant to make it to the appointment, i rang up the person and found he was running late. That excuse was good enough to postpone the appointment! This started getting me back into the moods... The cloudy weather was like a icing on the cake. I was trying to capture the rain thru my N95 for past 2 weeks, but the rain and I were never together. This time, it just tempted me without really raining or pouring. :D
I decided i will move towards PVR, as i had good number of movies waiting for me. Made it @ 3rd floor of 'The FORUM' sharp 6:55. I was gload to see the vacant KIOSK, I browsed thru the movies - first tried
  • Hudugaata - booked
  • Cheeni KUM - booked
  • Shootout @ Lokhandwala - booked
  • Mungaru Male - booked (i thought of seeing for the second time)
  • Life in a Metro - booked (i thought of seeing for the second time)
  • Aata - show was not there

I saw some gal waiting behind me to try her luck, I decided i will quit.
Went to SUBWAY, tried the Veggie Sandwich, Somehow i like the sandwiches of SUBWAY; they are really really good!
I felt it was too early to head back. Got into LANDMARK, spent almost an hour and picked up

  • Enrique - INSOMNIAC - As of now it sounds good, bonus track of remix of HERO is great
  • FLAVORS - an NRIs Desi movie which I had seen on STAR MOVIES, felt could be a good addition to my album
  • METRO
  • The BEST OF George Michael - DVD
  • ASHANTI - RAIN ON ME - DVD
Lately am trying to study the MUSIC Videos! :D

Incidentally after returning home and unpacking the CDs, i found the DVD ASHANTI - RAIN ON ME being missed in the packed item from LANDMARK. The guys have said they will sort out the issue tomorrow when i visit them. Am not sure what they mean by sorting the issue. They have to just give me another COPY!
After being exhausted at LANDMARK, i took the snap of this Ad, its a good work, but not sure how relevant it is, for the Perfume. (it appeared for a moment as a condom ad) :D

Got into Kalmane KOFFEE, it really looks great! I was the lone customer sitting there between 8:10 and 8:30. I wish i could have opened the other DVD rather than opening George Michael's and METRO CD and dirtying the place. Have to visit again tomorrow by which am sure i will burn some more cash! Hurriedly added few words on KALMANE like the earlier POST just to do justice for the TITLE! BTW the coffee tastes really very good! Better than the Jayanagar Kalmane! BTW all the images are being taken using my N95! N95 really ROCKS! If you are crazy like me, try N95, u will ROCK too! [;)]

Coffee @ Kalmane along with my Nokia N95!

I bought Second Nokia Phone in my life couple of weeks back. The first one has been several years back in the US which was really very cute! I donot remember anything(model, specs etc) of that phone. My first cell phone in Bangalore has been a decent Samsung model (i dont remember the model either) which was quiet expensive! Then i switched to LG reliance, for the only reason that i wanted (my Laptop) to be ONLINE 24X7, especially when i was travelling. This was some time in 2004 I guess!

Later, once i saw Motorola Phones, for reasons unknown, i fell in love and had the below models
  • A760 - a LinuX Phone (use to SUCK)
  • MPX200 - Win CE Phone (Lovely Phone - couple of my friends bought this bcoz of me!)
  • E398 - Not a Smart Phone (Decent but Good, Lost during my last trip - probably a mexican house keeping maid stole!)
  • V3i - the color looked pathetic (Dumb investment! It SUCKS! ONly difference from V3 is that it has additional storage, but some how it looks very bad to me!)
  • Black RAZR - V3 - i just LOVE this! (For the Sleek & Sexy Looks!)

I kept on waiting for Moto Q for quiet some time (nearly 2 years since the time it was launched in US) but it never was anounced in India!

Lately i got fascinated abt capturing some moments of life through the lens, thats when i started looking seriously @ Camera Phones! When i say Camera Phones, i really mean quality Camera. Somehow i felt Motorola Phones donot have enough capability of camera functionality, thats when i started looking outside. I read good remarks on Nokia N93 and N93i. I went to the shop and asked the guy to show me N93i. The person after giving enough good info on N93i, showed me N95 and advised me to go for N95 and also added that N93i will be discontinued. I got confused and returned back. After looking at good reviews on N95, finally decided to go for it. Once i bought this, i am really in LOVE with this gadget, atleast till now!

This is ALL-IN-ONE gadget! Apart from Voice Call, SMS features the other features i seek in a device are

  1. MP3 Player
  2. Enough Storage (N95 has 1 GB)
  3. Video Player
  4. TV Out (Optional, but I always wanted this).

In addition to the above, I had this requirement (lately) of Camera capability! N95 has pleased me exceptionally WELL with all the features!

Though i started to write this blog to show the pics taken through N95. I thought i would give a brief overview of my journey thru different Cell Phones. One of my new friend, suggested me to try Picassa. Am equally amazed by the tool and the cool feature of automatically generating a Collage out of few snaps impressed me quiet a lot! The above image is a collage made in 5 seconds with the snaps taken using my N95!

BTW did I mention that N95 costs Rs. 32K? Well quiet a few of my friends thought i was MAD to buy this one, i defended saying that "being single and not having Luxury(?) of spending both Time / Money with the Spouse gives me FREEDOM to go for this". But am not yet quiet sure which one is better, may be I will update when i experience the other one!

BTW, there is this place called as KALMANE KOFFEE @ Jayanagar which is really very cool - this is just to make justice for the title of this POST! :)Posted by Picasa

My Latest Craze!

I bumped into Music WORLD last weekend. As i have been lately hearing to FM, got hang of some hummable numbers like

Am little well-known for playing a song in a loop for days...

Picked up

  • CHEENI KUM
  • HUDUGAATA

along with

  • ARR's Pray for me brother - bought it for the DVD (well yet to listen / watch it though...)
  • BEYONCE's Beautiful LIAR - (Music Video DVD is a PLUS though am not yet sure abt the songs). Incidentally Shakira (which tempted me to buy) has performed with Beyonce
  • PREM's - Preethi Yeke..........

Well after listening to the 3 songs for nearly 50 times each, tried what else were there in the albums, I found

  • Ommomme heego from Hudugaata being a foot tapping number and is rendered by Alisha Chinai and Zubeen Garg. This is runnning for the past 14 hours and still going strong [:)]

    What is Cricket's Alternative?

Well it was almost during this time last year i got an hang of NBA Championship (Basket Ball Championship) when i was @ Dallas, TX. As i might have mentioned in one of my earlier blogs, three things i caught up with, during my last visit were AMERICAN IDOL, AMERICA's Next Top Model and the great NBA Championship (Basket Ball Championship). For some reasons i did hate to watch any of the programmes on the US Television earlier to witnessing the above programmes.

Since my colleagues @ Dallas were visiting us (me and an another friend) to watch NBA games at our place, i started following the same. Very soon, not only i started enjoying the game, use to cheer for Mavericks. The Key players for Mavericks were Nowitzki, Jerry Stackhouse, Josh Howard and the names were as familiar as Sachin, Saurav and Dravid. Nowitzki was like Dhoni who single handedly made Mavericks to win several games. His Three-pointers were like Dhonis Sixes which use to accelerate the score board as well as the excitement. Thus started my love for American Television Programmes - First one being NBA!

A brief about the game could be found here. Usually the matches are of 7 games. Each team is a host for the alternate games. So if MIAMI Heat is playing against DALLAS Mavericks, the matches are played alternatively @ MIAMI and Dallas, giving the Home Crowd Advantage for the Host Side. The way the teams are introduced with lot of lights, music and dancing is fun to watch. I think lately am witnessing gals dancing for 4s, 6s or a wicket in one-day cricket matches. This concept, is pretty easy to guess that it has been copied from Basket Ball. I found BasketBall was more fun, fast with lot of excitement. Being a die-hard cricket fan, it was difficult to digest the fact, that i started finding one-day cricket a boring game, lately. Especially after India failed miserably @ the World CUP. Maybe 20-20 is an answer to that sort of fun. Whoever wins 4 games first, is the winner, unlike our ODI series, where the teams play, even if one team has washed the other 6-0.

Coming to Cricket, earlier i held pride in being a Cricket Fan, for the only reason that - the Nation is UNITED atleast for this purpose. As you mature and start work, spending whole day glued to the TV, or Cricinfo.com is Foolishness. This way one is Inefficient @ Work and Not giving enough Time to Spouse, Family or Friends in their Personal Life is . What makes things worse is the fact that our players showing miserable performance @ the Greatest Cricket Event - the World CUP, disrespecting the entire Fan Following. Anyways there can never be a Alternative as the Madness of Cricket is hard to take out.
Just to list some games, I found
    1. KABADDI - [Plz Dont laugh] - an interesting alternative for the reasons it doesnt kill time like Cricket, Players might not play for statistics, atleast there might not be sponsorors queing up and giving huge endorsements to these players, and one cannot spend lot of time in the kabbadi court saying Kabaddi, Kabaddi, Kabbadi without getting tired (we can imagine how it would be if Saurav does this). As our script writers are lacking innovation i would give one idea "Enuff Cricket, Let's Do Kabaddi" which can be a hit considering the fact that there is a huge let down on Cricket. Indeed the very Cricket Sponsorors should sponsor such kind of Movie Making.

    2. HOCKEY - Does any one remember that once upon a time we use to be the leaders in this game. Thanks to (un) gentleman Gill, whose focus is butts than sticks, amidst administering the game.

    3. GILLI Dhanda - One needs to professionalise this game

    4. LAGORI - I guess this closely resembles Base Ball

    5. KHO-KHO - Yuvraj can do a good job, we can recruit Jonty as a Coach for this

Women who touched my life and my thoughts!

Well these are couple of collages which i did some weeks back for Intl Women's Day. Even before i started working on this, i knew i would do a good job and was aiming at a prize for the collages. Incidentally the organizers of the competition made the job pretty easy bye giving the topic - Women who touched our lives! Being a capri, obviously, many women had touched my thoughts with their success. But these women had not touched my lives. My Mom, Sis, Aunt, Teachers, Few Friends and Colleagues had definitely touched my LIFE and they had made a tremendous influence on my life. I think this is the fact for every male human. I decided i will make a single collage with two meanings in it

    • An Inner Circle at the center conveying about the women who touched my lives and

    • An Outer circle conveying about the women who touched my thoughts!

Since the spouse or better half was also as important (if nore more important for some [:)] ) as others and since i hadnt had that experience as yet, i still decided i will make her presence felt in the inner circle. This way i arrived at the idea behind my collage.

I first downloaded images of Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams (kalpana was the one who had influnced my thoughts of aiming for sky high ambition)- their images were really very great. Then thought of Mother Teresa - incidentally i was influenced of her for only reason that she had influenced Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty - who has created a revolution in the Modern Day Healthcare in India. The Yeshaswini - Insurance programme for Farmers is his baby - though the normal public have no clue about it. Then thought of some modern day spiritual leaders, as i didnot want to have a communal angle to the collage i dropped that idea. Had the sense of proud on Kiran Majumdar, Indra Nooyi and Padmasree Warrior, thats how i roped them in. Then always being influenced by music i added Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle. Though never had the opprotunity of listening to Gangubhai hangal and MS Subba lakshmi i knew they were much above than what lata and asha were to filmi music. Sania Mirza was indeed one of the recent success stories. Use to be agreat fan of Steffi Graf & Aish and to add little glamour i bought them in and added Sharapova too. I coined the words for each of the above category of women as below -

    • Sjy High Ambition - Kalpana

    • Compassionate Love and Service - Mother Teresa

    • Passion with Power - this was influenced by the image i got

    • Discipline with Thought Leadership (somehow i got these words for corporate women)

    • Dedication for women from Musical field

The above did not make the outer circle complete and so was wondering whom else to add in and so thought of Sonia Gandhi and added sarcastic words Innovative Leadership to be non-political about her presence. Thoughr of adding Condoleezza Rice and Hillary Clinton, somehow missed them. Thus the outer circle was done.

Now the inner Circle - definitely i cannot put the real life characters here, but only the concept which conveys the person. This time I tried Google Text Search and ended up at National Geographic Site. That week they were airing programm on neo-natal care, there were pretty impressive images on a baby at various stages of life in the womb. I collected 2 of them and somehow was keen to have both of them. Then i got a good image of a younger brother being taken care by a sister. I was tired of searching for images. I had spent almost 8 hours on this (4 hours at office and 4 hours at home), i just wanted to finish this and crush into the bed. It was already 2:30 AM in the morning. Luckily i found a very good image of couple. I decided i was done. I spent another hour and half with Adobe Photoshop till 4 AM in completing the collage. I felt great after a long day work. But somehow the inner and outer cirlces were not connecting.

Spoke to some friends the next day and the day after. Every one said it was great but they were wondering what the collage was communicating. The weekend i sat for 4 hours and cut them into 2 images. The image out of inner circle came out quiet good.

I found the words were also very much connecting the thoughts i wanted to convey

    • Precious Nine Months

    • Mother Care

    • Trusted Arms to Grow Along

    • For Journey called "Rest of Life"

As there was 'Seamless' word buzz every where coined a name to the collage SEAMLESS LOVE - which conveyed the same love being experience seamlessly experienced by a man from a woman either in the form of a mother or a sister or a teacher or a collague or a friend or a spouse. I was really excited how this whole experience of funny collage making experience had ended up. I became very emotional in the process of making this inner collage because everything was coming from my Heart. Also i realized what difference being passionate can make to the output of the work. Though usually am a very passionate person, offlate was a lesser passioante than i typicall use to be. I felt I was done with the collage making.

Just since i had this thought of finishing off the other collage also, and as almost 90% of the job was done. Somehow with very little interest i finished this off too.

But i did a good job in adding the text while submitting

For Women who inspire my thoughts of unconventional thinking. Thinking, that is inspired by their success based on their

    • Compassionate Love & Service for Mankind
    • Discipline driven with Thought Leadership
    • Dedication for the Art / Creativity
    • Passion Powered to Excel
    • Innovative Leadership during Crisis
    • Realisition of Sky High Ambition
    • Hardwork

A Very HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN's DAY to the current Ambitious, Globally Connected Women Community!

I myself was amazed to see if it was I who has written all this. In fact i was impressed with the job done.

Finally, the result was - the second collage had got the second prize. [:)] What bothered me most (for a while) was how come a less-passionate work done, got better appreciation than the one which i had completed with more passion. Finally as the good old saying goes, beauty lies in the eye of the beholder.

The grand prize I got was the sense of happiness, joy and passion i experienced in the whole exercise of doing it.

One Day Six Movies - What a Weekend! - I

Lately have this wierd idea of understanding how the movies are made! In literal sense, how many shots are there in the movie, where do they place the camera, how do they make the camera move etc etc. Rather than picking up a theoritical book, i decided to watch some English movies and explore. My obvious choice was the movies of the type Romance / Romantic Comedies! I had couple of movies already in mind like The Lake House, You've Got a Mail, The Break - up! Recently I bought a 180 GB External HDD and have become little fancy about filling it up with some videos. Though I have known lot of converters which can rip the DVDs, somehow an working one doesnt exist on my Laptop. So I decided to rent VCDs as much as possible and if they dont exist let me try DVDs. Contradictory to that, a few years back, i use to ask for DVDs first and then VCDs. I guess I am the only, one on earth moving BACK WARDS! [:)] Well, i could get VCDs of You've Got A Mail and The Breakup. The Lake House - DVD and i observed some one returning the movie "The Holiday", so grabbed that one. Then i decided, well will get 2 more as i had sunday too. SO i picked up "Serendipity" and rang up my friend who advised me to try "Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset". So totally i picked up 7 movies on Friday evening

    1. The Lake House - IMDB Link, Warner Bros Site
    2. The Breakup - IMDB Link, Official Site
    3. You've Got Mail - IMDB Link, Official Site
    4. The Holiday - IMDB Link, Official Site
    5. Serendipity - IMDB Link, Official Site
    6. Before Sunrise - IMDB Link, Official Site
    7. Before Sunset - IMDB Link, Official Site

Except for the last one (Before Sunset) i finished all the movies starting Friday Night ending Saturday Evening and ofcourse with Sleep of say around 8 hours. Well will not get into the details of movies, or their stories etc. Really all of them were class movies and one would love watching them. Except for The Lake House every other movie was a REAL - TYPE and definitely one can pretty easily co-relate though it depends whether you could connect yourself to any of the characters in the movie. The ratings i would give for these movies are

    1. The Lake House - ***1/2
    2. The Breakup - ****
    3. You've Got Mail - *****
    4. The Holiday - ****
    5. Serendipity - *****
    6. Before Sunrise - *****
    7. Before Sunset - Havent Seen YET

I have never seen movies of such a high quality in succession. I am kind of notorious in watching movies non-stop, when i go crazy. Couple of incidents to share with are -

    1. It was on one of the Semester exam days. Usually i had this habit of seeing a movie @ 3PM show @ Sterling Theater @ Mysore. Incidentally i did my BE from SJCE Mysore. I use to watch a movie irrespective of the performance in the exam. Sometimes friends use to accompany, sometimes i use to bump in all alone. I finished one by 6 PM, came back to home and found my cousin who had a back subject to give planning to go for one. He had given 2 subjects that day. Morning one and Afternoon One. There was this nearby theater called Saraswati @ Saraswatipuram Mysore and we just walked in for 8:30 show. That was first time i ever saw movies in succession on a single day
    2. During mid Nov 2006, i realised that i was not watching any movies at all. Reason 1, a little hectic work. Reason 2, Not interesting Company. Reason 3, Pain of standing in Queues. I decided, will watch 36 movies in 28 days. Isnt it crazy? Well I felt it too... It was a Saturday - Went to PVR trying for DON. Tickets werent available. Somehow Dhoom2 was not being screened @ PVR. Anyways, even if it was i never would have got the ticket. I browsed through the display and found "Thananam Thananam". I had heard about Kavita Lankesh making this movie and the fact that Rakshitha and Ramya acting in it made me to opt for this. It was a treat to EYES for three reasons - 1. It was like watching both a movie and a drama, as around half an hour of the movie revolves around performance on the stage, 2. Above that, I loved watching Hampi in the songs. Previously i loved Hampi in "The Myth". I have always been a great fan of HAMPI for reasons unknown. I plan to shoot it in my documentary which i am planning to make in this life time [;)]. 3. Preformances by Girish Karnad, Bharathi, and chicks Ramya and Rakshitha were indeed Great. Especially in traditional costumes, all were looking great. It was a TREAT to watch. That day evening i felt it was a great start. The next day, Sunday i went early around 11:30. There was a ticket for DON which was supposed to start @ around 2:20. I grabbed that ticket first. I dint had patience of waiting till that time. Then browsed for movies which were showing around 11:30 or 12. I found Hubbali @ 12:00. Got into it. Cameout at 2:15 and walked into the other screen showing DON. It was quiet a hectic day. But i felt it was great going. On Monday, it was the turn for one more movie. There was a near by theater by name Kamakya which was screening Dhoom2. It was easy to get a ticket in Black for 70 for a ticket which costed 50. Went in and it was a real pain in the A.. Not the movie was bad. I enjoyed the movie. But the theater was so horrible, the seats were just not the seats anybody would love, almost not workking fans, densely overcrowded, they started adding additional plastic chairs, adding to the mystery was the theater was full of mosquitoes. The passion of making it 36 movies in 27 days made me to hang around for the entire show, just praying that it would get over ASAP. That night was a real nightmare and my passion died down with my count @ 4. [:D]

Our Movie Makers, off-late (or even from the begining) are well known for Copying the Script, Music etc etc, I just wonder how come they missed the 7 movies i listed little above. Anyways coming back to my objective of learning from the exercise over the weekend, i think it has given me some knowledge, the results would be seen in my first dowcumentary or the first short film.
Now its been 30 minutes since i am keying in. Let me get back to the work which is waiting for me....

BTW, i dint watch any movie on sunday as it was the real REST day after a hectic Saturday and needed the rest as it was my Niece Bday and was attending the small family get-together in the evening.

Billionaires I have Met - II

Well there have been lot of thought that needs to be posted, but [no time] again as fellow blogger was saying the other day "Dont Fight For Your Excuses", I will take learning from that posting. A brief gist which did impact my thoughts - "Leaders don't make excuses". As a Leader whatever mess Chief Mentor of Infy Mr. NRN did, day before in presence of the First Person over National Anthem, got to my nerves, raised my temperatures and melted the half respect which I had for this little so-called Father of Indian Software industry or Super Wealth Creator for his Stake Holders! Anyways, will get back on these so called clean succesful men in an another blog. For frustration posted on the Bangalore Business Network on this issue click here.
I think my thoughts are already screwed up by avove lines on the above issue, in no mood to key in about the meet. Will post tomorrow(for sure)! [;)]

    About Other Billionaires!

As I have to work other than blogging, I will write about 2 more billionaires I have interacted with in next 2 days! Believe ME! Definitely will write unlike my commitment to the Bloggin has been quiet wierd... :((

My First Meetings With Billionaires I have MET!

    Date: Dec 28 2002 (Incidentally My Bday :) )
As it was my Bday, i got unusual number of personal calls (of that apart from family, other major number were from girls whom i liked or flirted with or i was looking forward to do so). Probably this was my momentary peak (or it was my ILLUSION [MAYA]). Incidentally word MAYA reminds me of a very good number (both regular and remix versions) by Rahul Sharma. The number has music with lot of classical instruments and sung by Sunidhi Chauhan. One of my friends was commenting that Rahul has tried to re-create engima in indian way, anyways I would be least interested in knowing what one is trying to copy etc. You can browse the below link to listen to the album in low-quality streaming audio http://www.raaga.com/channels/hindi/movie/HP000132.html It is really worth paying US$5 for such a great album. I wonder how such albums crash in the Music Charts or Sales.
Well going back to Dec 28 2002, I had landed @ the City of Palaces (Mysooru) from Trivandrum the bottom tip of India on Road travelling for 15 hours. At City of Palaces there was a Tech Event and we were showcasing (or figuring out who will buy) our Telemedicine Product. Prior to this, had been a passionate Technopreneur focussing on some products for the Not-So-Ready Dometic Market. I was supposed to give a first report(on our first paid installation) to Mr. BVJ who happened to climb the Billionaires ladder and thanx to the pre-dot-com burst and raise in the Internet traffic which made his company products a hot favorite of the ISPs and others (which I am not aware of). Incidentally he had co-founded and co-funded (with some peanuts - I call it as Peanut Funding) this company my team was slogging for. I guess it was more of a Philanthrophic activity rather than a Business Initiative which screwed up the Stake holders happiness (especially the so-called partners and the employees :)) ). It was a moment of pride to see or talk or report to a Technopreneur who had made it BIG! So is this writing a loser's article or rather what is it i am trying to say. Well am not sure either.
This was a meeting where i found that Technopreneur turned Billionaire is NO SPECIAL what I WAS or rather what I AM. It is just the matter of believing and persistently focussing and hitting HARD on Customers for THAT BELIEF to reach the "Freeway of a LONG and FUN RIDE!" Otherwise u just struggle being a pillion in the small bullockcart on muddy roads life long just being a mute spectator of the fancies of Bullock Cart Rider, assuming u are gonna head into the FREEWAY. Bychance, even if u head on to the Freeway, am sure u wud meet with a INSTANT COLLAPSE (for Obvious Reasons). It is better being in the MUDDY ROAD if u are in the Bullock cart. Get on to Formula-1 car or prefer being in a bullock-cart. Choice is ours. We make and work towards Our Destiny!

Vision 2020 - The Trilogy Production

Hm... Well By this time i should have had atleast 28 POSTS. i.e. From Pretake to Rehearsal Takes to the actual First Take on the stage. But TIME, TIME, TIME, TIME, rather BAD TIME management did it ALL! Anyways Yesterday was the first on-stage performance in front of a decent audience of around 500 people. The entire experience from being a novice to a on-stage performance in just over 3 weeks is an amazing experience! More details on the journey I have made in the past 3 weeks, will share little later... There are 4 more shows left - 2 today (27th March) and 2 tomorrow (28th March). If anybody is interested in making it to it, feel free to call or SMS me at XXXXX-YYYYY. I think We did justice to the show by scintillating performing on a Gorgeous Auditorium (worth around US$ 2M) at Christ College.
A brief about the show as written by one of my colleague who incidentally is wife of one of the Associate Director's of the Theater Production is as below -

This is an invitation to a theatre performance on 26th, 27th, 28 March 2007 as part of World Theatre Day. This focuses on Nation building while carrying the Vision2020 Idea forward. Attached is the e-poster with the details. Do make time to watch this play and spread the word. It is predominantly in English and has over 150 actors from different walks of life. Duration is 1.5 hrs

    SHOW TIME: 7 - 8:30 PM

    Wednesday, March 7, 2007

    Pre-Take on March 5 2007

It's been exactly an year since i thought of having an active blog, but as i am more of a planning guy with less emphasis on implementation, it has just been a yet another plan "unexecuted". Somehow 2007 has been quiet different, as I am moving out of the 'Only Planning Mode'. Well there are couple of incidents to prove that which i will share little later. BTW visit to a reasonably looking, attractive, unknown female colleague's blog rewinded my thoughts back by an year when i wanted to start my blog. Have been an silent admirer of beautiful open hairs of this unknown colleague, whose name starts with 'S....'. Incidentally my first near crush with younger person than me has been a gal when I was in XI and her name also use to start with 'S.......'. The fact was all my BEST friends silently had dreamt of being in her arms. So here i start the blog "VISION 2020". BTW, is my first posting got anything to do with noble "VISION 2020". Well, let's see in next posting.... [:)]. BTW i forgot to add that i am planning a story on "Office Romance", your thoughts are most welcome.
